MY Polymers DC Products include Dual Cure adhesives, coatings, and polymers for various photonic and optical applications.
The DC products are cured by either UV radiation, heat, or both.
They are used when the material is fully or partially shaded, and full UV curing is not possible.

 

Another typical reason for using these adhesives is when the assembly process requires a fast cycle time. In such situations, the adhesive goes through a 2 stage curing process: First, a fast UV curing stage enables initial fixing for handling. Afterward, full curing is accomplished, in a second stage, where cycle time is not critical (e.g. an online oven, or an off-line oven).

 

Typical applications include assembly of connectors, displays, electronic displays, touch screens, non-transparent ferrules, devices with complex geometries, non-transparent molds, etc.

Our lowest Refractive Index Dual-Cured product is DC-133, with an index of 1.33. The low index enables effective light cladding and the Dual Curing enables designers to use low index adhesives and coatings in shaded areas that cannot be reached by UV radiation.

 

DC-136 with a refractive index of 1.36 is designed to be used as a matching recoating material for the mainstream specialty optical fibers that use MY Polymers OF-136 Primary Coating. The material can be used to recoat a stripped optical fiber, in situations where UV radiation is partially or fully blocked. The accurately matched index ensures restoration of the stripped fiber to its original state.


DC-146, with an index of 1.46, is designed to be used in applications such as cladding light strippers. Like the other members of the DC products line, DC-146 is a flexible, non-rigid adhesive/coating. 
The flexibility of DC-146 enables higher endurance under repetitive thermal cycles. Being flexible, the material does not develop the high stress typical of harder coatings/adhesives.

 

Flexibility is a common important property for the DC products. The reason is that during the thermal curing stage, the material cures under a relatively high temperature, of over 100C. When the cured material cools down to Room Temperature the material shrinks. Due to its flexibility, the mechanical stress that develops is absorbed by the material. A rigid material would be more likely to experience cracking or failure at its interface with the substrate.
