During the Laser World of Photonics CHINA MY Polymers will be exhibiting our LM-136-EA Recoating, with an index of 1.36, and our new improved Re-coating materials with Low Modulus, Reduced sensitivity to Oxygen Inhibition, and UV-LED Compatibility.


MY Polymers LM-136-EA Re-Coating (index=1.36)

High flexibility and high adhesion for improved reliability under thermal cycling, thermal 'shock', and damp heat testing.

The new LM-136-EA UV Cured Re-Coating was designed to include all the important properties of an ideal Re-Coating.
The refractive index was chosen to be 1.363 (at 950 nm), matching exactly the index of our OF-136 primary coating, which is used by the majority of the leading manufacturers of specialty optical fibers.
LM-136-EA was designed to have Low Modulus, which means the material is very flexible. The high flexibility prevents the buildup of high stress under thermal cycling or thermal shock.
The high adhesion of this material, coupled with the low modulus, increases its endurance under thermal cycling and thermal 'shock'.
The material includes MY Polymers proprietary adhesion promoter, which improves the material endurance under damp heat test.
The product name, LM-136-EA, was meant to emphasize its important attributes:
LM stands for Low Modulus, 136 stands for the index and the letters EA stand for Enhanced Adhesion (under both dry and wet conditions).


A Frequently asked question is:

Why is it better to use LM-136-EA for re-coating, instead of the primary coating OF-136 as it is?

There are 2 main reasons:

1. The adhesion of a primary coating must be limited, to enable stripping.This limitation does not apply to a re-coating material because under normal circumstances there is no need to strip a re-coating.

2. The modulus of a primary coating has to be higher than a minimum value. However, there is no such restriction for a re-coating material.


MY Polymers – UV LED Compatible Low Refractive index Re-Coating Materials.

The fast penetration of UV LED spot curing systems makes it necessary to adapt old re-coating materials to this new type of UV source. MY Polymers is introducing its new line of  Low Index NI products. The NI products combine 3 features:  Compatibility with UV LEDs; Reduced sensitivity to the Oxygen Inhibition problem; and Low Modulus.
UV LED emission spectra is different from the emission spectra of traditional mercury lamps, resulting, sometimes, in slower response or lower cure. The new NI Products were specifically modified to optimize the performance for this new type of UV source, without degrading the response to mercury lamps.
The reduced sensitivity to Oxygen Inhibition allows good, non-tacky or less tacky surfaces, even when the surface is exposed to the atmosphere.

The Low Modulus, which means the material is flexible, provides dramatically improved endurance under thermal cycling and thermal 'shock' resulting in the overall improved reliability of the device.
